The launch of next-gen consoles is upon us, and it’s very likely you’ve already set up some mater flowchart to determine which games you’re going to play, for how long and in what order. You may have also allotted some time for food and sleep, but they likely fall under the “optional” header and will only be seriously considered if your thumbs start cramping. Hopefully NBA LIVE 14 has earned a spot in your gaming rotation, but if you haven’t picked it up yet or want to try before you buy then read on for full details of what to expect when the demo drops for PS4 and Xbox One on November 19.
Side note: We know Nov 19 is a few days before the launch of Xbox One, but the demo will be right there and waiting for you on Xbox Live the moment you turn on your console for the first time.
LET'S GET IT STARTED
The NBA LIVE 14 demo showcases four teams, with a solid mix of East and West talent to choose from. Take control of the Oklahoma City Thunder to put on a scoring show with Durant and Westbrook, lead one of basketball’s most storied franchises in the New York Knicks, make it rain from downtown with Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, or dribble circle around opponents with cover athlete Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers. You’ll be able to mix up the matchups however you want and enjoy a full-game experience from tip-off to the final buzzer.
Each demo team will get full CourtQ and Synergy Sports updates throughout the year, so you’ll always get the freshest data, ratings and tendencies. This isn’t just a set-it-and-forget-it situation, no matter when you boot up the demo the teams and players will be performing just like their NBA counterparts.
The demo also features Offline head-to-head, so you and your buddies can square off to see who’s still got the LIVE touch. And there’s nothing like beating a trash-talking friend who’s sitting right next to you and reveling in the look of sadness mixed with frustration on his face as you drop a back-breaking three. It’s actually quite breathtaking.
TAKE THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE
If you’re interested in getting a sample of how LIVE Ultimate Team will work then you’re in luck, as the demo comes complete with a pretty stacked Ultimate Team. You’ll get Kyrie Irving, Ricky Rubio, Damian Lillard, John Wall, Kemba Walker and Victor Oladipo, all ready and raring to put on a show. Using this all-point-guard lineup you’ll be tasked with tackling three tough Fantasy Showdown challenges, proving you can win with speed and finesse rather than size and strength. Can you survive the gauntlet of former EA SPORTS cover athletes who stand between you and victory? Here are the superstar rosters you’ll be up against:
NCAA Basketball Cover Athletes
NBA LIVE Cover Athletes
EA SPORTS Cover All-Stars
GO BIG OR GO HOME
If all that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get the chance to experience LIVE Season and take on five BIG Moments pulled from the most exciting moments of the current NBA season. LIVE Season provides new challenges every single day of the NBA season, along with leaderboards so you can see how you stack up against your friends and all the best NBA LIVE players around the world. Here’s the full breakdown of which BIG Moments you’ll be seeing in the demo.
A Rosey Homecoming
Derrick Rose’s first game this year for the Bulls was an emotional one, all the more so after he hit a game-winning shot to beat the Knicks in the waning seconds on Halloween night. Take control of Rose with 10 seconds left on the clock and attempt to replicate his game-winning shot.
The Orlando Magic are hoping Victor Oladipo is a player they can build around for the future, and so far he’s been showing some rookie promise. A couple weeks ago the young point guard had an offensive explosion against the Brooklyn Nets, can you replicate his scoring feat and score 10 points in the final 3:30 of the 3rd quarter?
Twenty in Five
While some BIG Moments are player-locked, this one gives you control of the entire Oklahoma City Thunder roster as you try and rack up 20 points in five minutes against the Wizards. Utilize the Westbrook/Durant combo to frustrate the defense, and look for opportunities in the post with Serge Ibaka.
John Wall can score, but he can also spread the love to his teammates. Get six assists with Wall in five minutes against the Nets as you look to find the open man with the hot hand. Sure, you know how to score, but do you know how to distribute?
A Crazy Ending
The name of this one pretty much says it all; the Celtics trail the Heat by 2 with one second left in the game. Take control of Jeff Green and make a literally last-second three-pointer to win the game. You’re going to need ice water in your veins to win this one.
ALL THE LITTLE THINGS
In addition to all these modes and features you can also expect a full ESPN broadcast package with Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy providing commentary, along with pre-game, halftime and a post-game show with studio host Jalen Rose. You can also jam to Strictly 4 My Jeeps by Action Bronson, Fire by Big Sean, Million Dollar Bills by Lorde and Crown by Diplo from the NBA LIVE 14 soundtrack, and can share clips of your best performances with your friends via the built-in tools on PS4 and Xbox One.
We hope you enjoy the demo and look forward to showing you everything we’ve got to offer in the full version of NBA LIVE 14!
Fans in North America can pick up NBA LIVE 14 on Tuesday, November 19, for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. NBA LIVE 14 will also be available worldwide on November 22 for Xbox One, and November 29 for PS4.
