After weeks of fantastic play from so many different players, it’s now time to reward those who stood out the most. On April 5th, 2013, we will be revealing the HUT Team of the Year for Hockey Ultimate Team. But rather than making all the choices ourselves, we’re giving you the opportunity to pick who makes the squad.
Beginning on March 29th, cast your vote on the NHL®13 Facebook page or tweet your picks with the hashtag #TOTYHUT through Twitter. Be sure to vote everyday as we’ll focus on a specific position until the entire team is revealed on April 5th.
From that day, when you obtain any gold packs in NHL®13 Hockey Ultimate Team, you'll have a chance at these special edition TEAM OF THE YEAR items. Each special edition item features players with boosted ratings. You can also challenge the Team of the Year and see if your HUT team has what it takes to play against the very best of the NHL.
Starting Lineup Matchups:
1 – (Center) Sidney Crosby vs. Steven Stamkos
Sidney Crosby looks to be at 100% this year as he has carried the Pittsburgh Penguins to the top of the Eastern Conference and working on a 13-game winning streak. He currently leads the league in points and is the odds-on favorite to win the Art Ross and Hart Trophy at the conclusion of the season.
Steven Stamkos looks like he could be emerging as the top scorer of this generation. His shot is nearly unstoppable when he gets off a one-timer and the pressure he puts on the attack opens the door for teammates to score as well. Currently, Stamkos leads the league in goals and is the favorite to win the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy.
2 – (Left wing) Henrik Zetterberg vs. Chris Kunitz
This was supposed to be a transition year for the Detroit Red Wings, but thanks to the play of guys like Henrik Zetterberg, the Red Wings are once again in the thick of things in the Western Conference and look to extend their playoff appearance streak. Zetterberg currently leads the team in goals and points.
Chris Kunitz has been the surprise player of the year for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Through the halfway point in the season, Kunitz is third in league in scoring and points and has the best plus/minus rating. Is this all due to his superstar linemate Crosby? We’ll let you decide!
3 – (Right wing) Martin St.Louis vs. Patrick Kane
A model of consistency, Martin St.Louis is once again near the top of the league in all offensive stats categories. He is an elite setup man and is the heart and soul of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Considering where they are in the standings, it’s scary to think what the Lightning would be like without his services.
Patrick Kane is enjoying a great bounce-back campaign. After a few years that were somewhat underwhelming, Kane has been a consistent presence on the highlight reel and is now averaging over a point per game. He is a huge reason why the Chicago Blackhawks were the talk of the sports world for a good chunk of the calendar year.
4 – (Defense) Kris Letang & Alex Pietrangelo vs. P.K Subban & Ryan Suter
In defense, we’ve paired two smooth skating Canadian defenders, Kris Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alex Pietrangelo of the St. Louis Blues. They face-off against Montreal Canadien’s P.K. Subban and Minnesota Wild’s Ryan Suter, who are two defensemen that can score in the offensive end and punish with huge open ice checks in their own end. Which style of play do you prefer?
5 – (Goalie) Carey Price vs. Tuukka Rask
Carey Price has been the backbone for the Montreal Canadiens this season. Arguably the most talented goaltender in the league, Price has given the Habs a shot at winning every single game this year. Even more impressive considering most pundits predicted the Habs would be sitting comfortably at the bottom of the Eastern Conference instead of near the top.
With Tim Thomas out of the picture, the Boston Bruins hoped that Tuukka Rask would be able to carry the load and deal with the pressure of a sports-hungry city. Not only has he handled it with ease, he continues to impress everyone who watches him play. Rask is part of the reason why the Bruins sit near the top of the Eastern Conference standings and are poised to once again reach at least the Eastern Conference finals.
